Dr. K.V. Raman, is a Professor in the Dept. of Plant Breeding, and has been Executive Director of the Cornell-Eastern Europe-Mexico (CEEM) International Collaborative Project in Potato Late Blight Control since its inception in August 1996. The major focus of this project is to lessen the problem of late blight through selected activities. He is also the Associate Director for Special Projects, and in this capacity he is responsible for developing special projects in international agriculture. He serves as the coordinator for the Biotechnology and AgriBusiness Initiative for India.

His research interests have focused on topics important to international agriculture. From 1977-1992, emphasis was on developing and implementing potato and sweet potato integrated pest management programs in developing countries. Those efforts were in close collaboration with the faculty in the Cornell potato breeding and pest management program. From 1993-1996 he worked as the Ameri Center Director for International Service for Acquisition of Agri Biotech Applications (ISAAA) on the safe transfer of proprietary applications in plant biotechnology available in the North to developing countries in the South.

His teaching responsibility is limited to giving guest lectures in courses conducted by the Dept. of Plant Breeding (Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding Methods and Laboratory); Entomology (Applied Entomology); and International Agriculture Program (Agriculture in Developing Nations). Extension responsibilities are to implement training programs and workshops for scientists from developing countries.

Invitations to speak at national and international conferences and symposia has taken him to numerous countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He has also participated in several international missions organized by the World Bank, Inter American Bank, Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) to assist in the area of integrated pest management, plant breeding, agribusiness and biotechnology.
